On February 9th, GXU hosted the 2024 Chinese New Year Eve Dinner for Foreign Teachers and International Students. Mr. Liu Xiang, a member of GXU’s Party Committee and Vice President, joined in the festivities with foreign teachers and international students at the East Garden Restaurant, sharing a joyous New Year’s Eve dinner to mark the auspicious occasion.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of GXU, Mr. Liu Xiang thanked the participating foreign teachers and international students for their active collaboration over the past year. He acknowledged their significant contributions to various university initiatives, including teaching, research, and support for international students. Mr. Liu Xiang also extended warmest New Year wishes to all participants.
The East Garden Restaurant provided the perfect backdrop for a delightful culinary experience, where both Chinese and international faculty and students savored meticulously crafted Chinese dishes. The menu featured symbolic items such as dumplings symbolizing reunion, fish representing abundance, and an array of hot and cold dishes conveying auspicious meanings. This not only offered a taste of traditional Chinese cuisine but also cultivated an atmosphere of harmony and happiness.
Mao Maoqin (苗茂钦), a student from Myanmar, expressed that China feels like a second home to him. Celebrating the Chinese New Year with a festive dinner at GXU will be a cherished memory in his journey abroad. It has deepened his understanding of the Chinese value placed on family and reunion, allowing him to integrate more deeply into the Chinese community and enhancing his love for this beautiful country.
Stanislav, a student from Russia, expressed his gratitude for GXU’s preparation of a lavish New Year’'s Eve dinner for international students. Despite the differences between Southern Chinese and Russian cuisine, he enjoyed the Chinese specialties and hopes to continue celebrating the Chinese New Year together in the coming years.
The event saw participation from representatives of the Party Office, the International Cooperation and Exchange Office, the International College, and other relevant departments, as well as teachers and student representatives from various institutes. A total of 166 international students and foreign teachers from 16 countries, including Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Russia, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, among others, participated in this heartwarming celebration.
